Real chop. Fish stack hard on the bank taking the wind, so cast with it at your back into the shore break.

Gusting to 21 mph — it will feel harder than 13 mph reads.

A float tube will drift — anchor or plan to kick back upwind.

Seasonal notes

Quincy Reservoir sits about two miles west of Aurora Reservoir on the same prairie bench, making it a logical companion trip for east-metro anglers. The reservoir is smaller than its neighbor and sees less pressure, particularly for fly anglers — many visitors walk the perimeter for a more intimate stillwater experience. Rainbow trout stocking events in spring and fall concentrate fish near the inlet structures and along the eastern bank, where wind-driven currents push invertebrate food. Access is open to the public during daylight hours, and the surrounding open-space trail offers a pleasant walk whether or not the fish are cooperating. Like Aurora Reservoir, Quincy has no gas motors, which keeps the water calm and the experience quiet by metro-reservoir standards.
