Seasonal notes

Clear Creek through Golden is one of the most accessible urban trout fisheries on the Front Range — the creek runs directly through the heart of downtown Golden, with parking and pocket water within steps of local breweries. The fishery runs from the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon down through town, and a healthy mix of stocked rainbows and holdover browns occupies the deeper pools behind the larger boulders. Heavy runoff from the high country (typically April through June) turns the creek opaque and unfishable, but by mid-July it drops and clears into prime small-stream dry-fly territory. Attractors like elk-hair caddis and parachute Adams work well; small bead-heads on a tight-line nymphing rig are reliable year-round. The canyon section upstream offers additional pocket water and far less foot traffic.
